The growth of US tech earnings is vulnerable to ongoing tensions with China. As Beijing exerts influence in the region, US tech firms will compete for a smaller market share. S&P Global data shows that for US chip firms, China is even more important for business than their home turf. The economist who coined the "BRIC" acronym said the currency idea seemed "crazy." The bloc is helmed by the major emerging nations of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. It also appears that it's just Russia and Brazil that have really pushed for a BRICS common currency. But even if a BRICS currency comes to pass, its use could be limited. AdvertisementAdvertisementPrakash said a BRICS currency would be used in "very narrow and vertical settings, or for BRICS projects."

The Chinese yuan is one of the top contenders challenging the USD's dominance as a reserve currency. However, Beijing may not be fully supportive of making the yuan the reserve currency of choice. Here's why even China isn't that keen on de-dollarizing the world economy and making the yuan the top reserve currency. So, the US will need to contend with ever larger amounts of deficit, in order to maintain its pre-eminent reserve currency position. Given the issues standing in Beijing's way, it's unlikely for the yuan to take over the greenback's position as the world's reserve currency of choice, said Green.
America argues that such advanced semiconductors can be used by China for advanced military capabilities. U.S. companies will be heavily restricted in exporting machinery to Chinese companies that are manufacturing chips of a certain sophistication. "The latest chip rules are a sign that Washington is not trying to rebuild relations with Beijing. For example, it's unlikely that advanced chips manufactured by TSMC won't have used American tools somewhere along the way. Under those rules, Huawei was cut off from the most advanced chips that TSMC was manufacturing and that were designed for its smartphones.
